Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is the result of witnessing or being involved in a trauma such as an accident or act of violence. PTSD is not restricted to any particular age group or gender. It may occur immediately after an event or may develop over a long period of time.

Common Symptoms:

  • Development of avoidance of situations which may remind the person of the traumatic event
  • Flashbacks of the event, which may manifest as intrustive thoughts, dreams or memories
  • Loss of interest or feeling
  • Hypersensitivity to sound or movement -- easily startled by noise
  • Cautious behavior -- easily excited or angered
